I have set the LORD always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad, and my tongue rejoices. My body shall also dwell in safety.                                                                            Psalm 16:8-9

MAY 2020

I hope this Newsletter brings us just a little bit closer together. Don’t forget you can listen or watch the following programs.

A service is being broadcast every Sunday morning on BBC Essex radio at 8am and on BBC TV appox.  at 11am and ‘Songs of Praise’ usually just after 1pm

Be still, and know that I am God!

Psalm 46:10

Being still is quite hard for me. I always seem to be dashing about with my list of to-dos. My grandchildren and animals to look after, usually all make up the noise and normality of my life. Sometimes it feels like a spinning wheel, that I do not seem to be able to get off. But now! In the midst of the most strange and surreal time in living memory, with disease seeping across the earth and past our doorsteps, God has given quiet and stillness. That precious gift of time; time that HE created for us to enjoy. He is asking us to Be Still and to reflect. To slow down, and to just be still. To know that He is God. A time of readjustment, a time to be in awe of God, to stop striving, a time to just Stop!

Even with the country in lockdown, and alongside the difficulties so many are facing, there are positives. There are so many things to be thankful for. Firstly we have been blessed by beautiful weather throughout April, which has lightened our spirits. The wonder of God’s creation! Spring is very much all around us. The trees are magnificent right now and many are full of blossom. Birds are nesting and singing so beautifully, and the skies have been so blue and clear. Our gardens are places of beauty, quietness and solace, which we can enjoy. Many families in the village are enjoying their daily exercise walking along local footpaths discovering things that they never new existed and enjoying the wonders of nature. We do trust and pray that they may know something of God’s spirit and blessing as they enjoy all He has given and made.

Diary 8th May 75th Anniversary of VE Day

Not sure how you will be giving thanks and celebrating this day. Maybe you could do what we are doing, sitting in our front gardens at 3pm, meeting our neighbours with a nice Cup of Tea and a piece of cake?

If you are able to go out for a walk, please take a look at the wonderful display outside of the Manors. The Knit & Natter group have made a really super display.

Prayer for the Day

Prince of peace, we remember the terrible destruction and suffering caused by war and give thanks for Your mercy and for the men and women who fought so bravely for freedom. Please, may the peace and harmony among European nations, that has endured for these 75 years, continue. Amen

Our Prayers at this time are very much for the people of this World as this virus spreads throughout its entirety. We pray especially for this country and for those who have lost their loved ones. We pray for the Government as they try to work through the vast problems that we are facing. We give thanks for the NHS, nurses, doctors, the Carers, the cleaners, the kitchen staff, the ambulance crews, the Chaplains, the shopkeepers, the school teachers, the rubbish collectors, the list goes on…Please add your own prayers for people you know.

Jeremiah 17:7-8

Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, and whose trust the LORD is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, who spread out its roots by the river, and shall not fear when heat comes, but its leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.

Thanks to everyone for keeping in touch with one another, with phone calls,  cards, letters. You have all done an amazing job, which has been appreciated. The church is checked twice a week for insurance purposes by myself and Sarah who has agreed to do this and some extra cleaning and jobs during this strange time. We very much appreciate any help to keep everything secure. Martin is still cutting the grass and Duncan keeps the hedge beautiful.

Perhaps during this time of isolation you could make a list of all the things you can be thankful for.

Just to let you know Eileen who comes up to Coffee morning from Valentine House with her daughter Carol, is in Broomfield Hospital. She is quite unwell and since arriving at the hospital has tested positive with the virus. Please pray for Eileen and the family. They are unable to be with her, which is very hard on them all.

‘THE SPARROWS- by Brian Pavis

One morning recently we were watching a flock of sparrows feeding when they suddenly took off and dived like so many swimmers into a dense bush at the foot of the feeder. Seconds later a flash of wings and a sparrowhawk landed on the bush! He strutted about golden eyes glaring, tried to push a talon through the bush to reach the sparrows but it was simply too dense for him to get in! He soon gave up and flew off and we were treated to little sparrow heads like flowers blooming all over the bush!

When trouble comes God is like that bush. He provides and protects His people!

Proverbs 2:8 “For He guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones.”

Think about the words of the song “He hideth my soul” by Fanny Crosby:

A wonderful Saviour is Jesus my Lord,

A wonderful Saviour to me;

He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock,

Where rivers of pleasure I see.

He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock

That shadows a dry, thirsty land;

He hideth my life in the depth of His love,

and covers me there with His hand

A wonderful Saviour is Jesus my Lord,

He taketh my burden away;

He holdeth me up and I shall not be moved,

He giveth me strength as my day.

With numberless blessings each moment He crowns,

And filled with His fullness divine,

I sing in my rapture, oh glory to God,

For such a Redeemer as mine!

When clothed in His brightness, transported I rise

To meet Him in clouds of the sky,

His perfect salvation, His wonderful love,

I’ll shout with the millions on high.

Dear Lord, as we rise to meet each new day, please let us be filled with Your spirit. Whatever we do, let us spread love, joy, peace, goodness and faithfulness. Let us desire to become more like you and to worship you in all we do. Help us desire these things so much more than the sin that entices us. Thank you for always going before us. In Jesus’ Name, Amen – Dr. Charles Stanley
