THOUGHT FOR THE MONTH
‘Love is patient and kind…not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged…Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.’ 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (New Living Translation)
Not every American tradition transfers – or should transfer – across the Atlantic to Britain. But I rather like the idea they have in some of their calendars of calling January National Thank-you Month. In a time of year that is traditionally rather bleak, finding something to be thankful for each day throughout January will not only remind us of our blessings, it might even give the impression of spring coming early. And I am thankful for anything that does that! The Fireside Book

THANKS
A big thank you to all the groups who once again produced a marvellous variety of Christmas trees for the church. We received many comments especially from visitors to the church saying how wonderful it looked. We realise how much work goes into this and it is very much appreciated. We would also like to thank all who did a reading at our candlelit service and provided tasty refreshments at all our Christmas Services. God’s, graciousness enabled our fellowship to be blessed beyond measure.

Suggested Prayers
In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
Lord, we commit our lives to You afresh as we begin 2018. You know everything that lies ahead so please renew our faith in You, restore our strength to serve You and rekindle our love to delight in You. In Jesus name.
Please keep in your prayers those who are struggling with their health, physically and mentally. We especially pray for Asher, Tara & Paul, Anne’s brother-in-law Peter, Judy, Michael & Beryl, Jim, Peggy, Clare, Lesley, and Dorothy. We, give God thanks for answered prayers. He continues to bless even during the difficult times, even when we wonder how we will get through. There are those who are part of the church family and others known to us who need our prayers for healing, restoration and strength. We also remember Pam whose husband Norman has died quite suddenly.
Give thanks for this community for all the many amenities we are blessed with. Pray for all those who work in the shops, post office, library, takeaway food outlets, chemist, doctors, school, playgroup, children’s centre, churches, and residential homes. Pray too for all involved in Silver End’s football teams for young and old. For the Guiding Group and Scouting Group, For the W.I. for the Heritage Society, for the Gardening Club, for the WEA, for the Ramblers and for the Community Choir, for the Greener Silver End Group….the list goes on and on but I wanted us to just reflect on how blessed we are to live in such a vibrant village.
Please pray for this church as we seek God’s guidance on the year ahead. Pray for one another and for our friends from the other churches in the village.
Pray for all who work in the National Health Service, we hear such worrying stories especially at this time of year about the challenges facing the NHS. We pray for all our local hospitals and give God thanks for all who work caring for sick and vulnerable people. We pray for all who are waiting for appointments, tests, operations, may they know God’s presence with them.
The NHS is Europe’s biggest employer with over 1.3 million staff. It deals with one million patients every 36 hours and spends about £2,000 per person. In 2017, the NHS was rated as the most impressive overall compared with the healthcare systems of Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and the USA.
