THANKS & NEWS

May has gone in a flash! We are nearly half-way through the year, which just seems impossible.

Thank you everyone for making our 80th VE Day celebration so enjoyable as well as reflective. Dave did a great job helping me decorate the church and outside with the flags and bunting. Denise and Sandra both worked really hard on the superb poppy table decorations. You all came dressed for the occasion and the prize as always goes to Jenny and her sister who came dressed as typical working 1940 s lady and a lady serving in the Land Army. A big thank you to Jeanette and Debbie who organised our wartime sing along It was great fun, we like a good sing. Brilliant quizzes! thanks to Mandy. The Brunch was delicious thank you very much for all contributing so generously and so much variety. A massive thanks to Denise and Mandy who organised this for us all to enjoy. It was a lovely morning and an Anniversary we must never forget and to be thankful for what our Nation achieved 80 years ago so we can freely enjoy our lives today.

I hope you all got to visit the Art Show and Classic Car show the other weekend . It was really great and so nice to see people out and about. Everyone involved in both of those events worked very hard to highlight their organisation and to give something back for all to enjoy. Also St Francis Church arranged a very special VE Day coffee morning on the Saturday, with the Silver Singers entertaining those who went along. Judith organised a shortbread competition which was well supported. I popped in and I must say the cakes were delicious.

As many of you are aware the village celebrates 100 years next year. There are now going to be monthly meetings to get organised for this special occasion and I will hopefully keep you updated on what will be happening. Our church plays an important role on 17th April 2026 there will be a torch light parade to the first house where the foundation stone was laid. After a short service and dedication of the 100th memorial stone there will be a torch light walk to the Congregational Church where the time capsule we hold will be opened and a new one started. A Celebration Rocket will be launched and refreshments served whilst being entertained by the Silver Singers. This will kick off the celebrations which will continue in June when the weather will hopefully be warmer.

Just to remind you that the church painting should begin this month. I am expecting scaffolding to go up at the rear of the church. It will be good to get the rest of the building tidied up. As an independent church the buildings are a big responsibility to keep maintained, the cost of everything is rising . We are having quite a lot of problems with the hall floors at the moment, This is a difficult one, as we were told many years ago not to sand the floor again. We are hoping to have a look at it during the school holidays to see if we can do anything before being sealed again. This will be a huge undertaking for us to try to do, so please help to keep the church buildings, as you would like to find them clean tidy, toilets flushed, tables secured, chairs stacked, floors cleaned.etc .

Thank you Dave for taking on the job of watering the roses and new trees. They were being a bit neglected by me, but now Dave is on the job everything should begin to blossom. Thank you Dave! Daphne is still working extremely hard in the garden keeping it tidy. This is very much appreciated, thank you Daphne.

Our Prayers

Lord guide me through this Month with Your wisdom. Help me to make wise choices in every decision I face. Lead me with Your love, so that my actions reflect Your grace and kindness in all that I do. Amen

We give God all the thanks and praise for his mercies shown to us. The encouragements, the answers to prayer. Our Lord is very gracious, so be thankful, count your blessings and trust Him for what lies ahead.

We pray for all the young people taking their exams at the moment. The STATS at primary level, also GCSE s at this time and soon the A level exams. All important for our young people to help them go into the careers they would like to go onto. We pray for our young people today living at this moment in time where there are so many evil distractions.

We pray for this fellowship, please God send workers here for You. We give God thanks for all who support this fellowship in so many ways. May God bless St. Francis and our friends there. We give God thanks for Rev. Jane and her ministry in our village and locally.

Please remember all those in need of our prayers especially those who are grieving. We continue to remember those who have recently lost loved ones. We especially would remember Barbara from Witham who used to come to our Coffee & Chat. Her husband Jim died last week quite unexpectedly. We ask God to surround Barbara and all the family with your love we pray. Please continue to remember Erica, Margaret, Brenda, Shelia, Doreen, Judy & David, Barbara, Iris, and Val and Geoff in Witham. There are so many other people we know who are really struggling with depression, money worries, job worries at this time, we lift them to the Lord.

The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face towards you and give you peace. Numbers 24-26
