We once again say Thank you for your help and support here at the church. To Denise and Mandy who are willing to keep the Coffee and Chat going through August and for all Daphne does in the garden and also for once again agreeing to help me varnish the hall floors. Thanks also to our church neighbour Duncan and his friend, who kindly fitted our new postbox. Your support is immensely appreciated. We must never forget the ongoing work or the workers that do so much Sunday by Sunday. Thank you and Bless all.

AUGUST HOLIDAY MONTH

August is always the traditional time for people to take a break from their everyday routine and maybe go away for a holiday or for days out visiting the seaside or places of interest. It may be just enjoying being at home and reading a book or watching the Paris Olympics. It is good to take a break and be refreshed and renewed. It helps us reflect on all the many blessings we enjoy and take for granted.

As part of this holiday month, may I ask you to especial pray for this fellowship and our village, as we look ahead to the future.

Prayer

Holy Spirit, please teach us to listen intently as we wait in Your presence, pray and read Your Word. May its living and powerful truth, like a sharp two-edged sword, penetrate our innermost thoughts and shape the intentions of our hearts to love and obey You more each day. For Christ s sake. Amen

from Our Daily Bread

Devoted to Prayer I ve been praying for you for fifty years, said the elderly woman. My friend Lou looked into her eyes with profound gratitude. He was visiting the Bulgarian village that his father grew up in and left as a teenager. The woman, a believer in Jesus, lived next to his grandparents. She began to pray for Lou as soon as she heard about his birth a continent away. Now, over half a century later, he was visiting the village on a business trip, and while there he spoke to a group about his faith. Lou hadn t become a believer in Jesus until he was almost thirty, and when this women approached him after he spoke, he wondered about the impact her persistent prayers had made on his journey to faith.

We ll never know the full effect of our prayers this side of heaven. But Scripture gives us this counsel: Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful (Colossians 4:2) When Paul wrote those words to believers in the small city of Colossae, he also asked for prayer himself so that God would open a door for his message wherever he went (v3)

Sometimes we may think, I don t have the spiritual gift of prayer. But of all the spiritual gifts listed in the Bible, prayer isn t among them. Perhaps this is because God longs for each of us to pray faithfully, so that we may see what only He can do.

May the calming peace of Jesus gently wash your fears away. May the power of God s spirit fill your life with love. And God s healing grace pour over you with blessing from above. Margaret Shoemark

We give thanks for the holidays, or days out and time spent with family and friends. We especially would pray for the young people of this village who await their exam results later this month. It is an anxious time for many as they plan for their future.

Pray too for Christian Summer Camps or holiday clubs, that all who attend will be kept safe and learn how much Jesus loves them.

Father God we lift before you all those who are in our prayers especially at this time. We pray for your servant Charles as he undergoes treatment for cancer. We thank you that you will keep him, his family and those who are caring for him in the NHS. We would also pray for Edward and Ted as they too are suffering from cancer and going through treatment. We pray for their families as they support them through difficult days.

We pray for Ukraine, the Middle East, where war and misery is all around.

We pray for all who have lost their homes in wild fires in Canada and for the intense heat once again in parts of Europe and a Landslide in Southern Ethiopia s Gofa district. Lord have mercy and help and comfort those in distress.

Please pray for the new Government recently elected. We pray for all MP s who represent their constituents working hard and doing all with integrity and honour. We especially pray for Christian MP s and for the charity Care who work in parliament keeping check on all dealings there.

Pray for all those struggling with their health. We know there are quite a few people who are attached to the church who fall into this category. Please pray for one another, we don t always realise how people are feeling or what concerns they may have. We do remember Pat who is currently living at Valentine House, Brenda who is in hospital with her breathing problem, Iris who has had her 2nd Cataract surgery. We keep in our prayers Barbara, Doreen, Judy and David, Val and Geoff and Shelia. We lift them all to the Lord for his love, help and care.
